Shackleton 6000 Calorie Meal Challenge

Celebrating the centenary of the Shackleton expedition to the Arctic, the Shackleton 6000 calorie meal challenge at Green Door Bar and Grill invites you to dine like a polar explorer. The Matrix Shackleton Centenary Expedition sees five descendants of the original team using the original compass to navigate 900 miles of the Arctic this year, and the mammoth 6000 calorie meal has been created in their honour.

Given the freezing temperatures and the toughest conditions on the planet, Arctic explorers need a massive amount of calories simply to keep their bodies warm and their limbs moving, so the Shackleton 600 calorie meal challenge is the easiest way to experience being an intrepid explorer without leaving the comforts of London.

The modern day recreation by the Matrix Shackleton Centenary Expedition will see the team consume around 6000 calories a day as they pull 300lb sledges for at least 10 hours a day, and to match that enormous amount of food, Green Door is inviting you to take up the challenge and sit down to a whopping meal.

All kinds of delicious dishes make up the Shackleton 6000 calorie meal challenge, including Hoosh, which was originally made with penguin, but has now been recreated with goose, along with corned beef, oats, potato and seasoning. This will be followed by a bottle of Stella, a 20oz Aberdeen Angus steak, cauliflower gratin, mushroom and creamed spinach, French fries, a glass of red wine and some coke. Pudding consists of chocolate fondant with two scoops of vanilla ice cream, and a coconut vanilla ice cream.
