Looking at the hundredth anniversary of the invention of plastic by Leo Baekeland who gave his name to Bakelite, Plasticity at Science Museum examines the ways in which this humble material has become part of our lives.

Plastic objects exist all around us and the substance has been put to numerous uses since its inception and development in 1907. But has plastic reached the end of the line in the 21st century? As plastic waste grows and the availabilty of the oil needed to make it diminishes, the Plasticity exhibition looks at how and why we need to find alternatives.
