More Info: Calypso at Tabernacle Arts Centre

A unique selection of the finest calypso and soca played by a medley of international performers and top British acts makes up the Carnival Village with London Calypso Tent performances throughout August 2008. Expect songs, rhythms and lyrics from the likes of Alexander D Great, Peace & Love, Lord Cloak, Cleopatra and reigning UK Calypso Monarch, Brown Sugar.

A hot spot for serious calypso lovers, people travel from far and wide to hear these great musicians play before the Notting Hill Carnival. A party atmosphere and plenty of memorable performances guarantee to put you in the party mood all the way up to the big day itself.

Night of the Zombies

The Tabernacle, Powis Square, London W11 2AY
When: 9pm Sat 23rd August
Tickets: £10.00 in advance, £12.00 on the door
There is also the chance to indulge in a little after party action as the Night of the Zombies takes over the Tabernacle the evening before the Carnival proper. Join Ebony and the Carnival Village for great fun with prizes for the best dressed Zombie.

Panorama
Where: Hyde Park
When: 12pm onwards, Sat 23rd August
Described by many of its fans as Notting Hill Carnival's best kept secret, this is the UK's showcase for steel band music. With 25 members in each band for the event, you'll get the full effects of an orchestra. Eight types of steel drum are combined with the latest calypso and soca music.

2008 sees the 30th anniversary of the National Panorama Championship and is expected to attract over 5,000 spectators for what is seen as the official start of the Notting Hill Carnival. Musicians will have come from all over the UK to compete, and attempt to be crowned the Champions of Steel.

J'Ouvert
Where: The streets on the Notting Hill Carnival route
When: 6am - 9am, Sun 24th August
Part of the cultural heritage of the Notting Hill Carnival, the J'Ouvert masqueraders are accompanied by tuneful pan sounds as they cover the streets of Notting Hill with paint and powder.
